Latest eli-flex in Repair belt conveyor

Quick & Easy Conveyor Belt repairs
Eli-Flex is the latest evolution in conveyor belt repairs.
It will repair any type of damage on belts ( holes, splits, tears, gouging, cover damage etc ) in less than 10 minutes. Eli-Flex is a stand-alone repair system. There are no repair patches, no adhesives, no clips, no vulcanizing etc. There are no tools required, no machinery, no equipment and no trainingrequired.
Eli-Flex will not replace vulcanizing, however it gives your maintenance crew a convenient solution at times when vulcanizers cannot respond quick enough or the damage is not severe enough to justify the expensive cut-and-splice procedures.
Eli-Flex costs on average 1/10th ( one tenth ) of a conventional vulcanized repair and can be done in under 10 minutes with your own personnel ( no previous training or experience required ).
Due to it's ease-of-use and quick repair capability, it is now the fastest growing belt repair system in Europe and the U.S.A.

rip protection
Dear Mr. Narayanan Nalinakshan,
rip protection is based on rip detection --> if done by vulcanized-in detection loops --> these are an integral part of belt manufacturing --> so please contact renowned beltsupplier and asking for their rip-detection proposals one may also ask for all further technical equipment to protect your belts.
Regards

Rip protection and Rip detection.
Thank you Sir,
In between, failure of a deflector plate mounted inside the discharge chute of reclaimer ripped about 400 mtrs of steel cord belt.
For new installations we can think of going for belts with rip protection. In case of existing belt, both EP &Steel cord it becomes a difficult affair.Removal of all causes and detection of rip in time tominimise the damage is required.
We propose to install lifting magnet to remove scraps at strategical points and also fixing some device near the discharge chute
for early detection of rip.I really want to know if some one can suggest any other successful/better methods.
Rgds,

Most rips can be avoided witha proper chute design.

Belt Rip Protection Using Modern Chute Designs
Further to my last comment, I am not aware of any belt rip that has occurred with one of our curved hood and spoon designs. We can mimic your tramp metal material mixed in the flow stream and classify the rip damage mechanism with the existing chute and then demonstrate a new chute will not allow thetramp metal to apply the necessary ripping force with our DEM code ROCKY. See our website for some flow images of rocks in chutes: http://www.conveyor-dynamics.com/rocky.htm Look at the examples and demos.
Use your imagination of tramp metal that can be added to this rocky flow stream. Since we can record all impact and shear reactionsof the particle set, I claim we can show how a new chute design will virtually eliminate all future rips.

Your first point of contact should be you steel producers. They are the best source of such information.
Low temperatures can do strange things to mechanical properties. Not only will steel become more brittle, but you can see odd things happeningto UTS and yield points.
In many cases, the steel producers will not give you a yield point, but a 0.2% proof stress (sometimes just called proof stress). This is because there is no significant yield point at these low temperatures. The 0.2% proofstress is the stress at which you will see a permanent 0.2% strain in the test samplewhen the load is removed. What this means is that you need to be careful when selecting the design limit state as there is no effective yield in the material. With such materials, the 0.2% proof stress is substituted for the yield stress, however you cannot use the limit state that you would normally use for material that had a yield point and so a point of plasticity.
Many years ago, I was ProductDevelopment Engineer with Dexion Australia. Our pallet racking was used in freezers, and in the main, we did not have to do anything as far as load capacity was concerned. One thing we did have to do was to halve the allowable beam deflection as with the standard deflection limit, the two part interlocking C section beams would open upand then when the load was removed, the beam sections would not return to their normal positions. Even when removed from the freezers and allowed to get to room temperature, they would not return to their normal positions.

Maximum belt speed

Maximum Belt Speed
Dear Mr./Mrs.
I’m looking for a coorelation between different parameters in belt conveyor design to find maximum belt speed. I’ve just found something like that in CEMA ver.6 (Eq. 3.7 & 3.8) for spillage and slip-back, but it’s clear that these equations are wrong. Could you help me to know if there are some equations to solve my problem?
I’m designing material handling system of a steel making plant that the main belt conveyor transfers DRI, Lime, Coke, and Additives in the rate of 720t/h.

The speed is highly dependent on your design criteria. Dust control, spillage control, belt tracking, et al.
Your tonnage is very light. Speed should not be the limiting factor. Once the conveyor width falls below 700 mm, there are dimishing returns to go faster. In addition, the conveyor length and geometry needs to be understood.
To control dust, noise, spillage, and belt capacity the densities, particle sizes, feed and receiving conveyor together with their chute geometries need to be given. Chute geometry design goes with the belt width selection and belt speed.
Thus, there are many details that govern the selections.

Belt with criteria small conveyor

Belt Width Criteria for Small Conveyors
Belt width fixing criteria for small conveyors used to feed other conveyors
Quite often we use small conveyors (Approx 10/12 metre length) within building to distribute the material on to the other conveyors both in unidirectional mode or in reversible mode to reduce transfer height. Many a times such conveyors are called beltfeeders, which may not be exact term since the rate is basically set by the preceeding conveyor. Quite often such conveyors or belt feeders are made wider with less speed. We are little confused as to whether such short belts need to be wider than normal with less belt speed or not. Moreover such belts are many times fully skirted to avoid spillage. Now with such belts is it necessaryto consider material shear as in case of hopper. Consideration of shear can make the conveyor very power consuming, although actual case may not be so. It is also noted that in ISO no such method is given to calculate crosssectional area of fully skirted belt. There is another issue that materaial may not be fully spread out in a wider belt from a narrow chute, dictaed by the feeding conveyor, unless some spreading arrangement is provided.
Hence the bottom line is that is it at all benifitial to increase the belt width with reduced speed and consider material shear in power calculation and in the process losing from both sides ?
